This Supernatural Story
Soderbergh tests his creative boundaries with this clever ghostly tale shot entirely through the eyes of the spirit. As a family featuring mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe occupies their fresh home, the lens – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. Cage fully commits to his eccentric image in this meta comedy caper. This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's locked-room horror remains effective even without a follow-up. Taking place in 1978 Denver, a series of child abductions has left the children frightened. When Finney is kidnapped by the kidnapper and locked up in a basement, he dreads the worst. But the disconnected phone on the wall keeps ringing, with eerie communicators offering help, while the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister could save him. An effective horror. October 11th, nighttime, on Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between spirituality and money, the victory is clear for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish film adaptation about the fallen TV preacher and her felon spouse. The actor plays the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals begin profiting from the American public's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of bad interior design, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, however Jessica Chastain succeeds to present the character as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, 1.15am, on Film4
This Espionage Thriller
The current week's second offering from the filmmaker is a spy mystery as precise similar to the collars worn by the actor's intelligence officer.
